In 2011 Cottenham Village College and The Centre School were formally created as 2 schools joined together as one Academy Trust. That was a new school structure but we continued to manage it through the existing Governing Body structure that we had run for many years, with a Governing Body and a number of committees.
As you may be aware, the government has changed its demands from governors considerably, and the old structures of governing were no longer providing the best way for the Governing Body to provide the support and challenge that each school needs. As a result we are in the process of formalising a change of governing structure which is shown in this diagram. Each Local Governing Body (LGB) will be directly responsible for student attainment and achievement, and for monitoring attendance and teaching and learning.
We have been operating with the new committees since January and are confident that this structure will serve us well. This has led us to plan to restructure the senior leadership of the school to match this new structure. Each school will have its own Headteacher, who will focus on the achievement and development of the students and staff. Communication within the different boards and committees is working well because of the constituency of the different groups. The group of trustees is made up of chairs of both of the LGBs and of the Committees, and this ensures the essential cross-fertilisation of understanding and information that is required.
